Local Opportunities to Serve

The Volunteer Center is pleased to host the 6th Annual Family Volunteer Day in a few weeks! Designed to showcase the benefits of families working together, National Family Volunteer Day is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving each year and kicks off National Family Week.

This year the service event will be held on November 19th from 9am until noon at Bluebonnet Elementary on Chisholm Trail in Round Rock. Over 100 volunteers are being called for to assist with the following projects:

*Help beautify the school campus and organize the science lab
*Make a Jar of Hope for Cancer Connection
*Sew a pillow for Elderhaven Senior Day Care
*Make a Blanket Buddy for a local nonprofit agency
*Create a craft for homebound neighbors through Meals on Wheels

*And more

Registration and additional information can be found on the home page of The Volunteer Center website – www.volrock.org .

Just Because Christmas Project is a non-profit organization that was established in the 1980’s. The purpose of this project is to help those families that don’t meet the requirements of other holiday support programs; such as families that live outside the Round Rock city limits. Our goal is to identify families in need through local agencies such as Williamson County Health District, local schools and other agencies and match them up with sponsors to provide nonperishable food staples and gifts for the children.

The sponsors come from the community at large; families sponsoring families. In 2010 with the community’s support we were able to sponsor over 350 needy families, which included over 1000 children.  We expect the number of families in need to grow this year due to local fires and the economy.

How you can help:

  • Sponsor a Family – Purchase gifts for the children and provide non-perishable food.
  • We have different sizes (# of children) of families that we support.  Let us know the family size you would like to assist.
  • Donate: New gifts such as Toys, clothes, food or make a monetary donation.
